    AMS PERFORMANCE ALPHA 10 R35 NISSAN GT-R: NEW 1/4 MILE WORLD RECORD!!!

    AMS and the Alpha 10 GT-R made its return to the drag strip a few weeks ago in an attempt to improve upon its previous ¼ mile record of 9.33@153mph. Since that record run, it was uncertain whether there would be another chance to run again this year due to the weather getting colder in the Midwest. However, after making a few changes to the Alpha 10 setup, the temperature warmed up enough and the decision was made to head back to the drag strip to see what more the Alpha 10 GT-R could muster up.


    The Alpha 10 finished tuning the day prior and was up another 80 wheel horsepower since its last run. The GT-R was now laying down 980 horsepower and 871 ft/lbs torque to the wheels (or an estimated 1165 engine horsepower - 1035 ft/lbs engine torque) with no additional turbo lag over stock! Weather was still in the 50’s and traction was still a plaguing issue, but AMS special projects technician, Ivan Phipps, took to the wheel this time and was able to pull through that day with a best run of 9.19@163mph!


    After a slight delay due to preparation for the Texas Mile and SEMA, we have the video of the record-setting AMS Alpha 10 GT-R run. Again, the quickest and fastest R35 GT-R in the ¼ Mile!

    More work has been done on the world challenge GT project. Justin was able to incorporate the steering angle sensor into our new collapsible Steering Column, also the fuel cell cover was fabricated and more rear wing work. Its really starting to take shape now

    Some more updates on the World Challenge GT build.


    Now that cage is pretty much sorted we can move on to other aspects of the build.


    Fuel safe was able to build us a custom 30 gallon fuel cell based on our CAD drawings that we sent in to them. Today they shipped us the shell for some test fitting. This cell when complete will house two high volume pumps to feed the updated power plant.




    We also got our hands on some very unique suspension pieces for the GT-R. As you can see they offer a much wider range of adjustment compared to their stock counterparts.

    Justin is wrapping up the very complex world challenge cage and getting the dash and seat positioned.











    Sorry for the lack of updates guys. This cage is insane!


    When building a cage for any car in wheel to wheel racing you really have to leave no stone unturned. Thanks to Justin here at AMS we are doing just that :)





















    The AMS GT-R SR series Turbo kit is really starting to take shape now. With custom silicone now here and attached the kit is almost ready for testing.


    In the pictures below you will see much of what won't be visable in the car. This setup is what will go on Tim sanders GT-R. Chucks will be a little larger.


    Also the Compressor outlet pipe for Chuck and Tim's car will be hand welded as is seen in the pics but the production kits will have a casted aluminum piece in its place with a smoother transition and more OEM like fit and finish.


    With all of this done the next step is to finish the oil and water lines and drop the engine back in the car. From there we can finish the downpipes and finally get Tim's car on the dyno!




    I can't wait to hear what these turbo's are going to sound like with that intake pipe on there :)





    I love this viewpoint! You can really see the size of these turbo's from this angle.




    Keep in mind in the below picture that intake pipe is unfinished. We merely had a pipe in there for clearance reasons. The final version will of course be all the way to the front of the car.



    More track car updates!


    One of the requests our customer asked for was a high volume fuel cell that would retain the weight distribution of the factory cell...a tall order indeed. However we love a challenge.


    Here we see Justin cutting out the floorboard of the GT-R to make room for our new carbon fiber saddle fuel cell we are making. It should be pretty wild when we are all done

    Here we have a very rough mock-up of our idea. From here the engineers will use our CMM arm and measure the area to see what our space limitations are and build the highest volume cell with the area we have to work with.





    While Justin and the engineers do their thing its time for Eric Jones to get cracking on installing our new billet bolt on turbo upgrades. This particular car is getting a variation of our SR750 package but will be tuned on low boost. He wants a well rounded but very reliable car and pushing the stock turbo's is not something he wants to do, nor do we recommend.

    We get asked all the time about Chucks car. I think it might even be surpassing that Blue demon evo we built in popularity


    On with some more updates:


    NHRA regulations require a parachute on a car trapping more than 150mph in the quarter mile. Considering Frank and Mikes GT-R cut a 146.9mph on its maiden 9 sec pass we knew Chucks was going to need a parachute.


    Justin stepped up the plate and built onto the existing cage with one hell of a parachute mount. The best part is the mount can be removed and the license plate installed in about 5 minutes and nobody is the wiser.


    Imagine setting up a street race with a GT-R and all of a sudden he whips out a parachute to attach to the car....hahahaha

    Its time for more updates on Zeus's Orange GT-R!


    The Transmission upgrade is back from Shep trans and the motor is ready to put in. Time to do some work!




    Here we have the transmission packed with all sorts of love from AMS, Shep trans, PPG, Dodson and Exedy:

    The Engine is fully built ready to get dropped in. Custom AMS JE pistons, Carillo rods and some nice Tomei cams round off one hell of a long block





    Here is another shot of the engine. The fabricators worked up some really nice turbo inlet pipes to help these new Billet AMS turbo's breathe!





    Now comes the daunting task of installing this monster of an engine into the small space that is the R35 engine bay











    Viola! Engine installed, Danny just has to button the engine up and install some very custom AMS intake and IC pipes and this little girl is ready for the dyno rollers :)

    Justin has been hard at work building this cage and its coming out GREAT!







    Below are more progress pictures of the cage. Keep in mind the cage has not been placed in its final spot so its sitting much lower in the car then it should. When finished it sits VERY tight to the car.

    HEAT HEAT HEAT


    Its a killer on the GT-R and when putting bigger and better turbo's in the car this problem must be addressed. For this reason we really went all out on the heat sheilds for our upcomming turbo kit. The first samples are done and came out great! It will offer SOLID heat protection and with the close quarters in the GT-R engine bay its a MUST!
